As the official start of summer, on the last Monday in May, Memorial Day is a day of remembering the men and women who died while serving in the United States Armed Forces.
Both of my grandparents served during WWII and were lucky enough to return home. My paternal grandfather was an MP in the Army serving stateside. My maternal grandfather as a Marine in the Pacific Theatre; and his father served in the navy during WWI.

During his funeral services a few years ago, they asked the marines to come play taps. I found out that once you have served, you are always considered a marine, never a “former” marine.

So, while we are enjoying the day off, remember to say thank you to those who died while serving and also to those who served. They made today, and every day where we enjoy freedom, possible.
This past weekend was a perfect time to be outside at The Urban Market Houston! It was gorgeous and cool, what a great way to shop an outdoor market!
Campbell’s Melange Booth
We were next to Holly Mathis Interiors and friends. I spent a fun weekend with Holly, Kelly of Southern Gilt and Christi of The Brown Shed. Notice Holly’s fabulous table covers in the photo— I’m going to have to upgrade!

It’s always great to see our friends at the market: Jackie Sharbrough, owner of The Urban Market, Mary Sue Key of The Mustard Seed, and Claudia Camp, among others. Suzy Smith from My London Flat stopped by to hang out with us.
Our clients found some great deals on antique prints, vintage pieces and original art.
I enjoyed a little blast from the past on the ride home. My dad wanted to stop at the Dairy Queen in Welsh, La. Apparently DQ and Orange Julius have teamed up together. I had a yummy Orange Julius that reminded me of the 70s! Don’t get the small — get the bigger size!
The Urban Market Houston is this weekend: May 4 and May 5.
Campbell’s Melange has been participating in The Urban Market for years now and we always look forward to the May show in our new home: the Bayou City Event Center. Urban Market, hosted by Jackie Sharbrough, is a fun outdoor event with many different vendors offering interesting antiques and decorative items. The weather should be gorgeous and there is always delicious food.
It’s always great to see our friends: Holly Mathis Interiors, The Mustard Seed with Mary Sue Key, Judith and Darrell and Claudia Camp, among others.
Come See Us! We will be on the first row to the right.
